Everyone has one price they keep checking - Bitcoin, a favorite stock, whatever this week's obsession is. Candlebar puts it in the Mac menu bar, quietly current all day. Click it and a full candlestick chart drops down: intervals from 15 minutes to 1 month, zoom and pan, volume, high/low stats, light and dark themes.
Prices come directly from public APIs - Coinbase, Kraken, Bitstamp, Gemini, Binance.US, CoinGecko, Hyperliquid, and Yahoo Finance for stocks - with automatic failover and no API keys. There is no account, no tracking, and no analytics inside the app; the watchlist never leaves the Mac. Candlebar is native Swift, 613 KB, notarized by Apple, and free. It was built by Todd Garland, founder of BuySellAds, who had been checking crypto prices in browser tabs since 2013 and finally closed the tab.

About the developer
Todd Garland founded
BuySellAds in 2008 (which also runs Carbon Ads), was one of HubSpot's first ten employees, and in 2018 started Great American Mining, a Bitcoin mining company powered by stranded natural gas that was acquired by Crusoe Energy in 2022. Candlebar is a solo project: the answer to why checking one price should ever require a whole browser tab.
